Alfreda Joyce Colton

Alfreda Joyce Colton, after a long courageous battle, returned home to her Heavenly Father on January 21, 1997. She passed away in the presence of her loving husband, William Colton Jr. at the Logan Regional Hospital.
Joyce was born at Wilford, Idaho on February 13, 1937 to Hyrum Burbank and Mary Webster Romrell. She graduated from high school in St. Anthony. She attended Ricks College for two years where was an officer in the RWRA (Ricks Women’s Recreational Association) and was active in intramurals. She won several ribbons and medals for her sports activity.
After she graduated from college she met William Colton Jr. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on July 18, 1958. To them were born two children, Teresa Joyce (Mark Balzer Sr.), and William Alan. They have six grandchildren: Merlin A. Balzer, 19, presently serving an LDS mission in the Philippines, Justin Ricky Balzer, 17, Melissa Sue Balzer, 13, Jessica Lee Balzer, 11, Mark A. Balzer Jr., 7 and Hyrum William Balzer, 5.
She was gifted in many types of crafts, including oil painting and crocheting. Many of her crafts were given to friends and relatives as gifts of love. These remain treasured memories of her by the people who received them.
She enjoyed many types of sports, including basketball and swimming in college, also dancing and drams, playing on the Malad City softball team for many years. She was a certified lifeguard in the state of Idaho, and taught swimming for several years.
She professed a strong love for her Heavenly Father, and at the time of her death was serving a stake mission with her husband for the Malad stake of the LDS Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hyrum Burbank Romrell, and one brother, Hyrum DeWayne Romrell. She is survived by her husband, William Colton Jr., her children and grandchildren; her mother, Mary Webster Romrell; two brothers, President DeMar Webster Romrell (Darlene) Montpelier, Idaho, and President Garry Harlow Romrell (Lynae) Rexburg, Idaho; three sisters, Mary Margueriete Cramer, Salt Lake City, Eva Lou Nielsen (David Nielsen) Malad, Idaho and Linda May Christensen (Reed Christensen) Tremonton, Utah; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Condie, Downey, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 1997, at noon in the Malad LDS First Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Benson Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Malad on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Friday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
