Petty, Lewis ”Roy” – circa, 1914

POCATELLO, Id. - Lewis LeRoy “Roy” Petty, 85, died Monday. April 12, 1999 at a local medical center.

He was the second of six children born to Lewis James and Edith Chella Howell Petty in Swan Lake, Idaho. Roy was reared and educated in Swan Lake, graduating from Downey High school, and he attended one year of college at Utah State in Logan, Utah.

He married Hilda Coffin November 14, 1935 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

Roy was employed as a machinist for the UPRR, retiring in 1973. Roy was a member of the LDS 26th Ward high priest quorum, and served in many callings in the ward.

He loved fishing, especially fly fishing and tying, gardening, camping, writing poems and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda, Pocatello; four daughters, Arlene (Gary) Yearsley, Huntington Beach, Calif., Faye (Don) Cotant, Chubbuck, Idaho, Linda (Dwight) Crandall, Pocatello, Idaho, LaRae (Rex) Olsen, Council Bluffs, Iowa; three sons, Clyde L. (Diane) Petty, San Diego, Calif., Dale (Vickie) Petty, Shelley, Idaho, Dennis Petty, Pocatello, Idaho; and three sisters, Helen Pearson, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Florence Condie, Blackfoot, Idaho, Ann Thomas, West Valley, Utah; and 26 grandchildren and spouses, and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Cluff Petty, one sister Edith Petty, and two grandsons, Robert and Curtis Cotant.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, 1999 at the Pocatello West Stake on Hawthorne and Eldredge Roads.

A viewing will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 1999 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., Pocatello, and from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at Swan Lake, with graveside services held about 2 p.m. following the services.
