Funeral services for Lyman J. Ipsen, 63, well-known Oneida County stockman, who died Saturday morning in the Oneida hospital, were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Pleasant View LDS ward chapel with Bishop Leo H. Brown officiating.
Mr, Ipsen was born July 29 1898 at Brigham City, Utah, the son of Nephi and Margaret Wight Ipsen.
The family moved to Malad when he was a child and he was reared and educated here.
He was a member of the LDS Church and a high priest in the Pleasant View Ward.
On Nov. 11, 1920, he married Mary Ann Parry in Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Mr. Ipsen was active in civil affairs in Malad Valley. He was a former member of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Assn;, past president of the Malad Forest User: Assn; a member of the executive American National Forest Users Assn.; a former member of the Idaho Brand Board; a member of the Malad Lions Club and active in the Oneida County Republican party.
Mr. Ipsen helped to organize and activate the first Idaho Brand Board. His interest in livestock started in 1921 when he started feeding hogs. After a few years, he became interested in cattle and bought range permits that were available. Unable to procure enough permits for his stock, he expanded his program to include fattening stock in feed yards and operated a yard in Ogden for three years; He also bought cattle on commission.
Mr. Ipsen was well known among stock raisers here and in surrounding areas, having judged stock and graded bulls at fairs, sales and for various associations. He was always available and willing to help young stock raisers in their club projects, sharing the knowledge he had accumulated over the years.
Surviving are his widow, two sons: Parry and Lyman, Jr., all of Pleasantview; nine grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, N. Ruel Ipsen and Mrs. J. M. (Jetta) Isaacson, Pleasantview; Lester Ipsen, Sacramento Calif.; Lewis Ipsen, Ukiah, Calif. Mrs. Stanley (Ella) Gilbert, Corinne, Utah.
