EAST, KEVIN GENE, June 2, 1966 – March 17, 1974

Kevin Gene East, seven year old grandson of a Samaria couple, Mr. and Mrs. David R. Atkinson, was found dead Sunday in an old carpet cleaning machine.

A son of Max and Ivy Jean Atkinson East, Ogden, was discovered by his father about ten o’clock Sunday morning at 344 2nd, Ogden, police stated.

Officer Glen W. Warner said the boy had fallen through the top of the carpet cleaning machine and his foot struck one of the blades. This caused the other blade to come around and strike young Kevin in the neck, pinning him against the back of the machine.

Kevin was reported missing by his parents, Saturday afternoon when he failed to return home and police and his parents searched throughout the night. Mr. East found his son when he resumed searching Sunday morning.

Kevin was born June 2, 1966 in Ogden and had lived there all his life. He was a student in the Lynn Elementary School.

Surviving are his parents and one brother, Curtis Max East, all of Ogden, and his grandparents.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Ogden at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Bishop David L. Ellis of the Lomond View Ward officiating.
