Milo Christensen

Milo Christensen, 88, of Downey, died Monday, July 19, 1993, at his home following a long illness.

He was born May 5, 1905, in Downey, a son of Soren Albert and Phoeba Mattie Bowman Christensen. He grew up and was educated in the Downey area, and was a graduate of Downey High School. He married Nellie Rex Christiansen in Logan, Utah, on November 23, 1929. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1932.

Mr. Christensen had been a lifelong resident of the Downey area, where he had farmed and ranched. He had also worked for the railroad, and for a short time, was employed as postmaster. He was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as an MIA counselor in the bishopric, as ward clerk, served for 11 years as bishop of the Downey Ward and later on the Portneuf Stake High Council.

He had been active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, and had been honored with the Silver Beaver Award. In 1990, he was inducted into the Tendoy Council Hall of Fame. He also served on the Downey City Council, and as a trustee and clerk for the Downey school board.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie of Downey; four sons and their wives, Richard DeVar and Virginia Christensen, Marvin Rex and Mary Christensen, all of Virginia, Idaho, Roger Clark and Marilyn Christensen of Soda Springs, Robert Kirk and Margaret Christensen of Centerville, Utah; also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; three brothers and wives, Albert and Martha Christensen of Logan, Utah; Ruel and Dora Christensen and Boyd and Irene Christensen of Arimo; and three sisters, Mrs. John(Gladys) Evand of Malad, Mrs. Hazen (Gertrude) Hatch of Burley, and Mrs. Warren (LuDean) Eriksen, Pocatello. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22 in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Downey City Cemetery.
