Leon Joseph Castleton

Leon J. Castleton 1910 ~ 2004 PRESTON, ID- Leon J. Castleton passed away March 2, 2004 in Preston, ID. He was born November 29, 1910 in Pleasantview, ID to Arthur Robert and Ellen Woolley Castleton. He married Elaine Jones Castleton, September 3, 1935 in the St. George Temple. After her passing he later married Alice Ruth Thomas from Preston, ID. He served an LDS Mission to the New England States and then graduated from BYU in music education. He spent 35 years teaching music in the public schools, most of them in his home town of Malad, ID, where he was particularly well known for his Christmas Cantatas and summer marching bands. He served in several bishoprics, as a high councilor, and many other stake and ward callings. He and his first wife served missions in Little Rock, Arkansas then again in Nauvoo, Illinois. They also served as officiators in the Logan Temple for many years. He loved nature, gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing his organ. His musical gifts have brought joy to many through the years. He is survived by his wife Alice of Preston; his children Don (Lola Beth) of Pleasant View, UT; Douglas (Kathryn) of Sandy, UT; Lowell (Marsha) of Boise, ID; Helen (Stuart) Duncan of Orem, UT; and Jean (Con) Alder of Farmington, UT. Also surviving him are three beloved stepdaughters Sharon (Ray) Naegle of Preston; Margaret (Steven) Westerberg of Preston; and Wilma (Brent) Dalley of Farmington, UT; Blair (Carol) Jones of Bountiful, UT and Ted (Lou) Jones of Prescott, AZ; and Mary Lou Jones of Malad, ID are his surviving in laws. He also leaves a great legacy to 48 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Preston 7th Ward (155 North 2nd West, Preston, ID). Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Webb Mortuary (109 East Oneida, Preston, ID) and Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
