David Nebeker Bastian

Arimo – David Nebeker Bastian, 36, passed away of a sudden illness on Thursday, January 23, 2014. He was born September 7, 1977 in Logan, Utah to Lynn Surn Bastian and Lillian Christine Nebeker Bastian. He was the 3rd of 5 sons. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. David was reared on the family ranch in Marsh Valley, Idaho where he developed a great love for all the aspects of farming in which he took great pride. He attended Mt. View Elementary, Marsh Valley Middle School and graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1996. At the age of 15 he was injured in a bull riding accident that left him paraplegic. The accident did not slow him down or stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. He had an active outdoor lifestyle hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, with family and his wide circle of friends. David was employed with the Bannock County Sheriff’s Department for many years. David also continued to work on the family farm with his father and brothers. David didn’t ask for help and he didn’t abuse the help he received. He never complained and was exceptionally patient. He never liked being the center of attention but always seemed to be the center of attention. Children were drawn to David. He had a special relationship with his nieces and nephews. They loved getting rides on his wheelchair or just sitting on his lap. We often said, “Kids and dogs love David”. David is survived by his parents Lynn and Christine Bastian, Arimo, ID, and four brothers. Matthew L. (Angie) Bastian, Arimo, ID; Hans C. (Maeli) Bastian, Pocatello, ID; Lytton S. (Ashley) Bastian; Logan, UT, Jacob N. Bastian, Downey, ID; and 3 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Merlin and Christie Bastian and maternal grandparents Delbert (Jr.) and Mona Nebeker. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 28 at 12 noon in the Arimo LDS Stake Building. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church and from 10:30-11:45 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Marsh Center Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
